Candy Houses

Last night we made Candy Houses.
I couldn't believe how well the kids did...so much concentration and creativity, and it stayed fairly neat too!!

Most of the houses are guarded by gummy U.S. Marines
A proud moment followed by...
Defeat. or a direct hit by another RPG wielding gummy marine?!
The kids had a great time, and today after lunch, they had a great time eating some of the leftover candy!!

Can you believe there are only 13 days until Christmas?!?!?!

Wednesdays with Wade: Week 17 in Kabul

I'll be honest with you, I really don't know if it is really week 17 or not.  I know that I am past the 2/3 mark and that I am getting close to being under 60 days remaining.  Work is going well and time is going fast.  I know that Erica is sad to see Efrain and Lydia leave, but hopefully the busy schedule that she has is making time go by fast for her.  I celebrated St. Barbara's day last Saturday.  I was cool to take a few minutes with my Artillery brothers at NKC and they showed a cool video.  I was fortunate enough to get a copy.

Christmas is approaching fast and before you know it, we will be in January.  I hope that everyone enjoys this time of year and that we all stay focused on what is really important.  American marketing folks have made great strides in changing the meaning of Christmas from taking the time to remember the birth of our Savior and giving some of what we have been blessed with to others, to making it all about our happiness and fulfilling our wants.  A few weeks ago, I heard a muslim man describe Christmas as a day when families get together to exchange gifts and to eat candy.  Although I am sad to be away from the ones that I love during Christmas, I have to be thankful for all that I have been blessed with and pray that the people I love the most will take the time to praise God for giving us a savior.

I thought that I had a few pictures of the Christmas decorations around NKC, but apparently, I don't.  I will take some pictures this week, so I can post them next week.   Until then, here is a picture of what I ate for Thanksgiving.

Laundry...

One of the many joys of having my parents visit, and one of the many reasons why I'll miss them...
I got new washing machine last week, but just used it for the first time this morning because my Mother has been doing my laundry...
Such a nice break...such a nice blessing!!

Thanksgiving in Kabul

Thanksgiving was a good day with all types of food, desserts, and non-alcoholic drinks.  There was plenty of conversation, about the families that we missed, and we still managed to get a little bit of work done.

As I take a few minutes to think about the things I am thankful for, I realize how much God has blessed me over the years.  Here are just a few of those things:

1.  I am married to one of most wonderful women on the planet.
She is a Godly woman who is beautiful, caring, always loves her family (even when we don't deserve it), is full of wisdom and grace, and has a smile that can make me happy, no matter what I am going through.

2.  Sara:  One of the most naturally talented people that I have ever met.  Her ability to pick up and master any hobby, musical piece, or sport, is amazing.  The Lord has blessed her with beauty, smarts and talent.

3.  Jackson:  I am so proud of this young man.  He has a heart of gold and a grace that can only be attributed to our Lord and Saviour.  Without a doubt, he will become the type of man that I can only dream of being.

4.  Georgia:  My little sweetheart who always makes me laugh, even when she is naughty.  Georgia is not only academically intelligent, but is full of street smarts.  She is a funny little sister, and an awesome big sister, who always protects her little brother.  A true Mini-Erica

5.  Luke:  Although it's too early to tell a lot of his personality, it is obvious that might have too many of his daddy's characteristics.  He is an amazing young man who with the help of God, Erica, Sara, Jackson, Georgia,  and me, will most likely become a World changer.

6.  Last but not least, an amazing God who loved me enough to give me a wonderful family for our time on Earth, and who sacrificed his son so that I could spend eternity with him and those that I love.

Happy Thanksgiving.
